Release – Elevator Regulators Reject AEDs
(10/16/2010)

Elevator World
The bible of the industry, Elevator World has introduced the concept of AEDs near elevators with an article by ElevAED founder Dwight Jones.
The article is an edited form of ”Elevators as First Responders” and cites the ElevAED Project’s focus on elevators lobbies as deployment points for AEDs.
ElevAED has requested that elevator code regulators allow AEDs to be carried on passenger elevators in much the same fashion as emergency phones are today.
AEDs are illegal on elevators otherwise, and ElevAED is making the case that public safety, and the sheer number of hard-to-access SCA events each year in high-rises will justify expanding the list of allowed devices to include public access defibrillators.
***UPDATE: ElevAED’s initiative was decline by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers on January 25,2011.*** Elevators lobbies are more achievable…
